Little wishes

He's a little royalty : > But it doesn't make him a spoilt brat!

At his hand, is a stack of prayer sticks. These are burnt at the temples, or at the shrines at home.

A lot of traditional houses in Eastern countries have shrines at home, which are dedicated to some deities yes, but mostly to one's ancestors.

The prayer sticks are lit then held between your palms as you send your messages to your ancestors.

Some would just talk, really. "Hello, great grandfather, watermelons are in season again so here I left you a slice."

Things like that.

Sometimes, it is wishes. "Great grandmother, please watch over my son as he's facing a dangerous time at the moment. He was always your favourite. Please keep him safe."

It is also a good remembrance of where one family has come from, what kind of people they once were, and who they are : >

I made this with fountain pen and calligraphy ink for the inkwash. Then I re-ink the outline after the inkwash is dry~ : D
